Access denied to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\MSDE.bat or check.vbs

SYMPTOM

The following error is displayed when attempting to install the Yearli program:

"Access denied to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\MSDE.bat"

or

"Access denied to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\check.vbs"

CAUSE

This error is caused by an anti-virus software blocking the installation from accessing the Temp folder.

RESOLUTION

Procedure 1 (Disable anti-virus and reinstall)

  1. Disable any anti-virus or anti-spam software on the machine.*
  2. Attempt the Yearli installation again.

*The portion of the anti-virus that needs to be disabled will depend on what brand of anti-virus is being used.

  • McAfee: Real Time Scanning
  • Norton: Auto-Protect
  • Kaspersky: Self-Defense

Please note that most anti-virus software can be paused or disabled by right clicking the anti-virus icon in the system tray, which is located next to the date and time in the taskbar.
