SYMPTOM

I received a TIN Validation Failed, but my W-2s or 1099s were accepted using the same name/SSN. Why is that?

RESOLUTION

W-2, 1099, and 1095 forms are all filed electronically through different systems. W-2 forms are filed through the Electronic Wage Reporting Web Service (EWRWS) system, 1099 forms are filed through the IRS Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) system, and 1095 forms are filed through the Affordable Care Act Information Returns (AIR) system.

Due to the differences in filing systems between forms, there can be discrepancies between the acceptance of information in one system and the acceptance of information in another. Please note that an accepted or rejected filing status for one form type does not affect the status of another.
