A patch component could not be found

SYMPTOM

Error message pops up after attempting to perform updates:
“A patch component could not be found."

CAUSE

There is a missing component in the update sequence.

RESOLUTION

Procedure 1 (Check for Internet access)

  1. Open Internet Explorer or any available Internet browser to verify an active Internet connection is present.

Procedure 2 (Reapply updates)

Note: If Yearli is installed on a network, these steps will need to be taken at the server machine and each workstation machine.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli\20XX*, where XX is the year of the software, and find the file called Versions or Versions.ini.
  2. If Windows Vista, follow the steps below.  If not, skip to Step 3.
    1. Right click the Versions.ini file and select Copy.
    2. Right click on your desktop and select Paste.
  3. Open the Versions.ini file in Notepad.
  4. Change the line that says “PatchLevel=X” to “PatchLevel=-1”.
  5. Save the file.
  6. If Windows Vista, follow the steps below.  If not skip to Step 7.
    1. Right click the Versions.ini on the desktop and click Copy.
    2. Navigate to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli\20XX*, where XX is the year of the software.
    3. Right click and select Paste.
  7. Open the Yearli program, or double click on the Yearli Server 20XX Update Online icon if using Yearli is installed on a network.
  8. Apply the available updates. If Yearli is installed on a network, repeat the steps for each workstation.

*The file directory will differ depending on the year and version of the program. The following are the default paths of WinFiler, WinFiler Plus, and Yearli:

  • WinFiler: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler
  • WinFiler (Network): C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler Server or WinFiler Workstation
  • WinFiler Plus and Yearli 2014: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler Plus
  • WinFiler Plus and Yearli 2014 (Network): C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler Plus Server or WinFiler Plus Workstation
  • Yearli: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli
  • Yearli (Network): C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli Server or Yearli Workstation

Procedure 3 (Verify workstation connectivity)

Note: These steps will only apply if Yearli is installed on a network.

  1. The updates may not being applied due to connectivity issues. Follow the steps in the How do I change what computer my Yearli Workstations are looking to for the data? article for steps on how to verify the workstation is pointed at the correct server.

Procedure 4 (Verify that the server and workstations were updated the same way)

Note: These steps will only apply if Yearli is installed on a network.

  1. If the server version of Yearli was updated using a disc or using a downloaded file, the workstations will need to be updated in the same manner. Verify that the server and workstations were updated consistently.
