SYMPTOM

When installing Yearli the following error message displays:
"The SQL Server installation has failed or been cancelled."

CAUSE

This message will occur when Microsoft SQL Server cannot install successfully due to one of the following reasons:

  • A restart may be required for system changes to apply
  • WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) corruption
  • Enabled UAC (User Account Control) and/or anti-virus software
  • User account may not have Administrator privileges
  • Computer name and user name are the same
  • Multiple Administrator accounts are logged in
  • Insufficient permissions set on Greatland Corporation and Microsoft SQL Server folders

RESOLUTION

Procedure 1 (Restart Computer)

  1. Restart the computer to apply any system changes that may have been made by Microsoft SQL Server.
  2. Run the Yearli installation.

Procedure 2 (Verify WMI is functioning)

  1. Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard.
  2. Type "msinfo32" without the quotes in the Open field.
  3. Click OK.
  4. If the System Information screen displays, then go to Procedure 4.
  5. If the following error displays, "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software.  Windows Management files may be moved or missing.", this would suggest that there is corruption with the WMI.  This error will need to be resolved by an IT technician before the software can be successfully installed.
